Boutaris: Instead of calling our neighbors Gypsy-Skopjans, we lose if they do not join the EU and NATO
Instead of ease the neighbor, we call them Gypsy-Skopjans, says the Mayor of Thessaloniki and asks “Is this behavior?”
In a statement on local media from Thessaloniki, Yiannis Boutaris commented on whether and what loses Greece if our country does not integrate into Euro-Atlantic institutions.
– We are losing many things, losing our dignity to NATO and the European Union, we do not ease the neighbor who is like a small child, he wants to find his identity.
And what do we do? We swear with Gypsy-Skopjans. Behavior is this ?, Boutaris comments.
The mayor of Thessaloniki says the negotiations are the work of the government, and neither he nor the citizens can tell her how to negotiate.
According to MIA correspondent in Athens, Mayor Boutaris repeated his personal position on the name issue, but also expressed the view that the problem between the two countries should be resolved.
-My position is a complex name, something that was decided by the previous governments in Bucharest in 2008. And secondly, the implementation of the rules of the Interim Accord that they say is a complete replacement of all irredentist expressions and the like.
And this should be done in two phases.
The first is to agree on the name, and in the second to agree one plan that for the period of three or five years to make those things that are stipulated by the Interim Accord.
Plan for three or five years with binding clauses.
It’s not easy to change textbooks, citizen awareness, 100 years old Macedonians were called, says Boutaris in a statement on the Thessaloniki media.
